It is your essential power as a human and it’s meant to be used in every part
of your life.” ~ Jacob Nordby, author
The Nest is a culmination of ideas and dreams that got their start when I was
very young. I’ve always loved taking a variety of ideas and materials and
working to create something unique that will benefit others.
After high school I thought I would be the right arm to the doctor and studied
Medical Assisting in college. In the last quarter of the program I discovered
that I could not hurt people—if the patient was hurting, so was I— hence
charting me on a course to the business side of medicine.
For over 30 years I worked in the healing industry and used creativity to build
medical clinics from the ground up. Over the past 10 years however, I began
to notice a true deterioration of my colleagues and the systems in healthcare
and first responders. Having lost two physicians to suicide, it was through my
own healing that I discovered the importance of art as a way to calm the mind
and become more creative in my everyday life.
As a licensed esthetician and certified reflexologist I just couldn’t help but feel
the nudge to create a haven for other people. That is how the idea for The
Nest evolved. A place to help people discover the benefits of healing touch,
explore creativity, rest, and maybe find a lovely candle or nice token to help
them remember the calming effects of their visit.
Serving others brings me so much joy. Looking back over my career I am
pleased to see how, in retrospect, the variety of my experiences in healthcare
and the spa industry are paired with art to provide the perfect foundation for
this Healing and Creativity Studio—The Nest.
